What if there was an easy way to shield teeth from cavities? There is!

Dental sealants are a quick, non-invasive treatment that we apply to teeth to effectively seal them off and prevent tooth decay from getting into the deep grooves and crevices that are so hard to clean. While sealants are mainly recommended for children, adults can get them too.

The best part about dental sealants is that they take only minutes to apply and can be done right after a dental cleaning.

How Dental Sealants Work

A sealant is essentially a durable a plastic coating that fills in the deep grooves on the top of a tooth, protecting it from plaque-causing bacteria. With the sealant on top, the tooth becomes smooth, and bacteria, food particles, and plaque slide right off.

We apply dental sealants by painting them onto teeth. There are no needles or drills or other potentially scary tools involved, just a tiny brush, some special liquid, and a curing light.

The most common place for sealants is the back teeth since they have an irregular chewing surface and are the hardest to clean, especially for children.

If you have children and want to protect them from tooth decay, or you’re concerned about protecting your own teeth, talk to Dr. Woodall about dental sealants!
